Amour

The French film Amour was a quiet, thoughtful movie, and (for the most part) a touching, loving one too. Something happens close to the end which was probably meant to be a surprise twist, but I predicted it early on. The movie grinds to a slightly clumsy, pat, and preconceived ending because of this. My opinion of a character we’re supposed to care very much for was lessened because of the action that character took. I’m not sure that was the filmmakers’ intent. But this was a minor quibble in the midst of an overall lovely film. It would make a wonderful play or musical.
