Writer/director Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation) thinks outside of a box that is 900 light years away from our box. He has created another unique masterpiece with Her, which is certainly the most interesting movie of the year. I’ve never seen anything like it, and I doubt you have either. It takes place in an unspecified future, and stars the always-reliable Joaquin Phoenix, and features a disheveled-haired Amy Adams who physically reminded me of the disheveled-haired Cameron Diaz in BJM. The Oscar-nominated song is lovely, and I appreciated that the sounds coming from the ukulele actually matched what Mr. Phoenix was doing with his fingers. Her exists in a world of its own, and it has opened many doors in my head and will resonate with me for a long time. I hope I live long enough to get to hang out with that round-headed character from the video game.
