It’s not perfect, but I was endlessly charmed by Silver Linings Playbook, which joins the ranks of the other delightful films in the “slice of life” genre (a term I first heard used when You Can Count On Me came out in late 2000). It’s a quirky comedy with characters not from a cookie cutter. They seem to exist in a world where their speech has no filters. Whatever is in their brain comes – often immediately – out their mouth. They made me hug myself and want to hug them. I was very impressed with Bradley Cooper, Robert de Niro does his best work in many years, and I can’t wait to see the career that Jennifer “Katniss Everdeen” Lawrence has ahead of her. What a beautiful movie.
