Lincoln

Lincoln was a solid Spielbergian epic, and has the best costumes, sound, and score that I’ve encountered in the Oscar nominated films this year. Academy Award nominated actors Day-Lewis, Field, and Jones do magnificent work. As usual in a biopic (especially a Steven Spielberg biopic), it takes a village, and I enjoyed additional supporting performances from David Strathairn, James Spader, John Hawkes, Tim Blake Nelson, and Jared Harris as Ulysses S. Grant. I don’t want to get too specific and political here, but some of those issues raised – and arguments for/against them – present an interesting parallel with ones we face today.
